Farmers and other rural residents have some very unique challenges in dealing with the covid 19 situation. Public health expert say the covid 19 epidemic is tough for everybody, but for farmers and other rural residents, it presents unique problems. This from Dr. Jeff Bender from the University of Minnesota.

He told a special webinar, “Many of our folks that work and in our rural environments feel safe because they already feel like they're isolated and thinking this isn't going to come to me.

Also, our rural populations are older”… making them more at risk of serious problems if they contract the disease.

Plus, Dr. Bender says some rural areas…” we have limited health care access or that's not readily available or we know that many of our rural hospitals are closed. We also have this feeling of invincibility. You know, I'll be fine. And then one other thing is we don't have really redundancy in our work. We have a limited workforce. So if somebody gets sick, then we really do have limited folks that actually can carry on.”

So the covid 19 situation raises unique challenges for farmers and other rural residents. Their burden is not only stay healthy, but raise the food that feeds America, keeping us healthy.
