It’s all about looking strategically into the future noted Richard Waycott, president and CEO of the Almond Board.

“So we developed a Strategic Ag Innovation Committee a couple of years ago, really wanting to have a group of people look out at that future and strategically decide where we need to go with ag initiatives, environmental initiatives, food safety initiatives, et cetera,” said Waycott. “And then we developed the working groups under those, and each working group is targeted on a specific aspect of how we grow our crop. And we're investing money, throughout that network of working groups to again contribute to that almond orchard of the future being realized,

Waycott speaks or the here, the near and the far--- the future of the almond industry.

“I think that's the strength of this industry for a long time. We do take the time to do that, and then we stick to it and we fund it,” explained Waycott. “And so adding in a more serious way, sort of a 20 year view of things to the extent we can, it just really helps build back from that to today and then see what we need to do in these shorter and mid term steps to achieve that longer term desire.

Speaking of almonds, did you know that the California's community of more than 7,600 almond farmers are committed to using sustainable agricultural practices that are economically viable and based on scientific research, common sense and a respect for the environment, neighbors and employees?
