Patrick Kissel is one of my favorite guys as it relates to outdoorsmen because he is so laid-back while, on the other hand, so capable, both as an angler and hunter, as well as a fishing guide. Quite by accident a long time ago he located in Alaska and just listening to this story, you’ll understand why. “I went up and hunted spring bears this year. I had my residency so it was a free tag. I tried to get one with a bow and where I lived in my trailer, I could look up at this mountain I could see them. I could glass and in the middle of the day I’d be trying to get something done and I look up, and there would be a bear and of course I would run up there. It took about 45 minutes to scramble to the top through the alders. But I get up there. I look at the clock and it’s 10 o’clock at night. I have an hour of light left and I would see one and I would run up there. Long story short, I messed up with a bow in the morning and went back up there at night with the bow and the rifle and I ended up shooting one with the rifle. That was super exciting because it was in my backyard.
