Spring is only days away and with that Colorado farmers are making final decisions about what they’ll grow this year. The National Agricultural Statistics Service is asking state growers to let them know what they decide.

Meyers:”We will begin conducting our Prospective Planting Survey. We go out and try to determine what people are planning on planting this season. We already know what the wheat acreage is because that was done in the fall and now we’re looking at how many acres of hay they’ll harvest, how much corn will be planted, sorghum, dry beans, potatoes. This one is going to about 1,200 producers in Colorado.”

Bill Meyers is Director of the NASS Colorado office in Lakewood. He says the results of the study will be of special interest to growers and policy makers following last year’s midwest flooding the record 20 million prevented planting acres.

The results of the study are set to be released by the end of March. The survey can be found at NASS.USDA.Gov.

Spring is coming early this year Thursday, March 19th. This is the earliest the vernal equinox has occurred in 124 years.
