The deadlines for farmers and ranchers to sign up for a handful of important Farm Service Agency programs is quickly approaching.

The Administrator of USDA’s Farm Service Agency, Richard Fordyce, posted a reminder to urge farmers and ranchers to get information and get signed up. The programs offer protections from substantial drops in crop prices as well as income for lands less suited for farming.

Fordyce: “Farmer to farmer, I encourage you to visit your FSA office soon, especially if you’re interested in enrolling in either the Agriculture Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage, the Conservation Reserve Program or any other FSA programs.

The Deadline to enroll in the Agriculture Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage programs is March 16th. But they recommend folks get in touch with their county FSA office and set up an appointment now.

Fordyce: “FSA county offices have multiple programs competing for staff time and attention and ARC and CLP are important but somewhat complex. Plus if you don’t enroll you cannot receive a payment for the 2019 crop year, should one trigger in the fall.”

Farmers and ranchers who enroll now can adjust elections anytime before the deadline. And they can enroll for 2019 and 2020 at the same time.

The deadline for the first general sign up for the Conservation Reserve Program since 2016, is February 28th.
