On an Alaskan hunt, Jon Wipfli was able to harvest a bull moose. “ Stalked up to him behind some brush, about 150 yards out and I laid into him. He dropped right there that to me was the pinocle. We put everything into it and in the final minute it all paid off. So that night, around 9:30, now it’s getting pretty dark. We were on a mountainside so we gutted it, prompted stomach open with a stick and then tilted it downhill so that any extra blood would drain out. It got down to 32° at night so it was perfect and we left it overnight., We came back in the morning took the hide off, quartered it. We had to bring a guy in with a wheeler because we were still pretty far off the main drag. We took the whole thing out and I think the moose was around a thousand pounds. After everything was said and done we had about 500 pounds of meat. I took 250 pounds back to Minnesota with me and gave my uncle the other 250 pounds. It’s the best protein I have ever had.”
