On day nine of a 10 day hunt, Jon Wipfli was exhausted after hiking for what seemed to be 100 miles through heavy brush looking for a bull moose. He could hardly walk and said he had beaten his body up carrying around a 40 pound pack through extremely difficult Alaskan terrain. We pick up the story: “I met up with my uncle back on the trail through pure luck. My legs were wobbly to the point where I told him I couldn’t walk anymore. I told him I needed to take his Rochon back for whatever it was, three or 4 miles. I drove 20 minutes up the mountain and saw a bull 300 yards away. I was completely exhausted, shut off the engine and as soon as I did that the bull went back to grazing. It was like he thought I was a car passing by or something like that. I was fumbling to get the gun out of the case as silently as possible and then I sneak up behind some brush to get within 150 yards. At that point I dropped him. I have never been so tired in my life and my body has never taken that much punishment. It all paid out. To me that was the pinnacle. We put everything into it and the final minute we got the payout. It was great.
