Jon Wipfli goes moose hunting in Alaska and finds out it isn’t that easy. “It was my first moose hunting in Alaska and I hunt with my uncle annually. It was day nine of a 10 day trip so if I was going to shoot an animal it would have had to be that day or nothing. We were hunting mountains, we were glassing, we were seeing animals at a distance. Not a ton of action. Saw some bulls but no shooter bulls. On the ninth day in the morning we started hiking down this mountain. I hiked about 8 miles, my uncle was on a Rochon which is a motorcycle made for off-roading. I went another 8 miles and didn’t see anything. Hiked about 5 1/2 miles back up and by this time it was about an hour before sunset. I was 13 miles in, I was completely broken down, I had a 40 pound pack on the whole time and oddly met up with my uncle back on the trail. We didn’t have any cell phone service so was sheer luck. My legs were wobbly to the point where I told him I couldn’t walk anymore. I had to take the Rochon back the other three or 4 miles or whatever it was.” Tomorrow we find out if Jon was successful.
