“Core vaccines are core vaccines because they are high consequence diseases. The vaccines are very effective. They're human health concerns associated with those vaccines so they are issuance of the lightest Western and the lightest West Nile Virus tetanus and rabies a horse who's alone out in a pasture can still get rabies can still get tetanus can still get West Nile. Eastern and Western these vaccines are so important and so effective that it's really important that horse owners understand the consequences of not vaccinating your horse for these diseases especially with rabies. They're not gonna be able to tell you that they were bitten. That's why it's so important that they're vaccinated annually.”

That's veterinarian Dr. Bonnie rush from the Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Having heard that from Dr. Rush Dr. Jacqueline Boggs says save do it yourself projects for crafting and home remodeling when it comes to administering your horses vaccinations to protect against grave equine diseases. There simply is no room for error. Yet recent reports from the American Association of Equine Practitioners revealed many horse owners and trainers were willing to accept some risk with their horses vaccinations with 50 percent administering their horses vaccinations themselves. The leading reason for self administration of the vaccines of course was cost so something to think about. Remember you get what you pay for.
