Around since 1962, the California Irrigation Institute is the longest running independent forum on water and irrigation in the state. The group holds their annual conference next week in Sacramento, and Executive Director Kathryn Chandler gives us a peek at some of the program.

Chandler…”Dr. Peter Williams was one of the top executives at IBM for quite some time, but he focused a lot of his efforts on environmental and water management. So he's our keynote and he's going to kind of bring that big tech perspective to water. And then following him, I think we have just a really top notch opening panel. We have Derek Williams, who's going to talk about Paso Robles and how they are striving to meet the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) . They have a growing urban area, plus a wine industry, but yet they don't have surface water, so they're fully dependent on groundwater. We also have Jason Phillips from the Friant Water Authority who is trying to be proactive for the San Joaquin Valley and putting together a water blueprint of kind of a voluntary approach to meeting the requirements. Also, we have Felicia Marcus with the state water resources control board. She comes from the environmental perspective and how they view the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act coming together.”

Next Monday and Tuesday, January 27-28, are the dates for the conference at the DoubleTree in Sacramento. All interested in water are welcome to register and attend.
