Sportsman's Spotlight runs on radio stations from Colorado through Idaho Oregon and Washington. All of these western states suffer, and yes I did say suffer, from the scourge of serious depredation on your elk herds by wolves. Being in Idaho, I just read an article about an Idaho Wolf management activity that targeted what is called the Lolo elk zone which is a very Remote mountainous Area in Idaho that is Home to a lot of elk and a lot of wolves. I reached out to Roger Phillips who is with Idaho Fish and game.

Does Idaho Fish and Game pay hunters to go in. Is that how that works. No actually it's not. In this case we hire out with either a private contractor or in the past we've done it with wildlife services going in in a very specific area and that's about low area. We go in and kill some wolves because we want that elk population is currently below our objectives. We think that wolves are a component in not allowing those herds to rebound and so we've been trying to take out some wolves every year and see if we can get that herd to start bouncing back a little bit. If we saw that herd or when we see that herd bounce back that's something we would discontinue. So it's specific to in response to our elk herds in their thought other states with Wolf problems might want to know.
