The USDA has a series of seven trade missions scheduled for 2020 to enter into export markets.

Colorado’s small and mid-sized ag and food companies can especially benefit from these agricultural trade missions.

Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Ted McKinney.

McKinney: “2019 alone generated 78 million in sales. We can look at the billions sold in some of our large commodities and say well that’s small potatoes. No no no no no. Remember these are small to mid-sized businesses that in many cases are just starting their experience at exporting.

Colorado is the country’s 26th largest agricultural exporting state, shipping $1.7 billion in domestic agricultural exports abroad in 2017. (latest data available)

Colorado’s largest market was Canada. Colorado exported $1.4 billion in goods to Canada in 2018, representing 17 percent of the state’s total goods exports.Canada was followed by Mexico ($1.3 billion), China ($577 million), Korea ($494 million), and Japan ($456 million).

Colorado’s top agricultural exports in value according to the USDA, were Beef and Veal at 372 million dollars, wheat at 227 million, feeds and feed grain at 152 million, and other plant products 319 million, and dairy products at 107 million

North Africa is the first USDA led trade mission in March. The Philippines, Spain and Portugal, the UK, Australia and New Zealand are also on the list for 2020
