The Colorado Farm Bureau and Western Growers are among the agricultural groups happy to hear about a break through in the United States, Mexico, Canada Agreement.

The groups and others are hailing the news that a deal has been reached between congressional Democrats and the Trump administration on the USMCA.

Don Shawcroft, President of the Colorado Farm Bureau released a statement saying this “is the most welcome news Colorado farmers and ranchers have had in a long time.

Canada and Mexico are Colorado agriculture’s two largest trading partners and the potential failure of the trade deal has hung over our industry and its farm and ranch families for quite some time.

Western Growers President and CEO Tom Nassif issued a statement that said in part:”“In this turbulent trade environment, American farmers need certainty more than ever. The USMCA not only reaffirms our strong economic ties with our North American neighbors, it offers a new model for how U.S. trade deals should be structured in the future.

Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue said in a statement that the deal is a big win for American workers and the economy and especially for farmers and ranchers. He said the USMCA lays the foundation for a stronger farm economy.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi echoed those comments.

Pelosi: “There is no question that this trade agreement is better than NAFTA.”

The House and Senate now must ratify the deal. Secretary Perdue said he hopes the lawmakers will pass USMCA by Christmas.
