Damon Bungard and his dad had just finished a successful Alaskan caribou hunt and it was time to wrap things up. “I loaded straps from a bunch of caribou racks on the roof of a rental car and drove on dirt all the way back to Anchorage. Dropped our meat with a processor and had it shipped to the lower 48 back to our homes, his in Georgia and mine in Tennessee. So that was that an we had many years with a couple of hundred pounds of meat. Caribou to me is like really good venison. elk is like really good beef and to me Caribou is a little richer venison. Some people will not Caribou, they don't like it very much. I think it's because they shoot the bulls later as in post rut. It's better to shoot them in the beginning when they are just losing their velvet. I find Caribou to be delicious I have hunted them in Quebec and Alaska. I have had zero complaints about the meat, whatsoever. You know Damon so many people talk about venison as being too gamey in terms of taste. You just referred to caribou as being like really good venison. So in terms of being gamey??? Not at all. It is rich and delicious.
