I’m Bob Larson. Patience is running thin in the ag world when it comes to finalizing trade agreements. We keep hearing rumors of it being just a matter of days, but so far, no USMCA ratification and no China deal.

With regards to China, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue says this trade war has really been going on for about 20 years …

PERDUE … “But I think President Trump is committed to resetting this relationship making sure that we’re playing on a level playing field. While agriculture has enjoyed the customer standpoint of that, we also know that there’s some very untoward things going on regarding technology and regarding the U.S. economy, as well as the ag economy, digging up seeds and those kinds of things and trying to reverse engineer, using the hard work of American ingenuity and creativity and bypassing the hard work and taking it to China.”

As for the USMCA, Perdue responded to recent comments from Speaker Nancy Pelosi about an agreement between House

Democrats and the administration was “imminent” …

PERDUE … “If you can define imminent in Washington D.C. for me, I can tell you the answer to that question. That’s the word of the day, I think, is that it will be passed is imminent. I am, I’m optimistic that it will get done. I think in light of everything else going on in D.C. right now, this Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, need to go home over Christmas break and say we’ve got this done. I do believe it will get done this year. Glad to hear the Speaker continue to speak favorably of it.”

Perdue says U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer has done a marvelous job patiently addressing many trade issues.
