The Farm Credit Administration was one of four agencies that were instructed to open financial services to the hemp industry, after the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp cultivation.
Glen Smith with the FCA, recently discussed that with the House Agriculture panel about how loan requests are being handled for Hemp farmer in particular.
Even though hemp production was legalized under the 2018 farm bill, many banks concluded the regulatory uncertainty presented too great of a legal risk and opted to not participate in financing hemp production.
