A Colorado onion packing plant has a new look on its packaging. The idea is to attract new consumers and maybe get kids to ask, “Can we put those in the cart ?”

John Harris CEO of Paradigm Fresh in Fort Morgan which provides production, wholesale distribution and transportation services.

It in conjunction with the National Onion Association has created new labels for his consumer packages. The new Nature’s Ninja character is expected to bring attention to the many “ninja-like” qualities of the onion – everything from its nutrition and health benefits to its zero waste sustainability.

Harris: “He’s a pretty playful little guy that’s fun to look at. And we thought that he’d be pretty kid friendly. Selling onions is pretty hard to grab attention, especially for younger kids. Maybe while little kids are in the shopping cart with mom at the grocery store and they see our playful little ninja it might provoke a hey let me take a look at that real quick. This is one way for ourselves and the National Onion Association to unite and do something good for the whole industry.”

Different types of onions will have their own color of the ninja character.
