Wild Turkey

I was talking with Doctor Bruce Stein about the alarming decrease in the north American bird population by 3 billion birds since 1970 which represents a 29% overall loss. While discussing this topic I brought up something that I had Learned and reported on previously concerning a decreasing population of another species that has great importance to you folks who enjoy listening to Sportsman's Spotlight.

I talked to a friend of mine and he was talking about the massive declines in the numbers of wild turkeys. Do you know anything about that?

That's interesting, because wild turkey for the most part has been quite a conservation success story. There's been a lot of effort to introduce or reintroduce turkeys into various parts of the country. And my understanding, at least, is that wild turkey populations have been going pretty well. And in fact, so well that in some parts of the country they're becoming a bit of a problem. I mean, wild turkey have become pretty adapted to living around people. And you sometimes hear these reports of wild turkeys attacking people's cars because they see themselves in the hubcaps and getting pretty aggressive. So I'd be curious to hear where he's seeing these declines, cause that's not what I've been hearing.
