It's reassuring to know that animal health companies are trying to work away from the notion that, the second something goes wrong think antibiotics. Dr. Judson Vasconcelos, Merck Animal Health, Director of U.S. Veterinary and Consumer Affairs discusses the development of vaccines as an alternative means of maintaining animal health. “if you have a healthy animal that’s well vaccinated, that animal is not going to get sick. That's the first step to decreasing the use of antibiotics. We have different tools and different technologies that we have been developing for the last several years. We have a tool called whisper and it is very important to ensure whenever you are diagnosing BRD on the cattle side, that we are looking at how severe that disease is and we are actually having the best protocol treatment for that individual animal instead of having a massive use of antibiotics. It is a very good way to ensure that we have individual treatments. That is something that is going to be expanding considerably in the next several years.
