Nearly every aspect of agriculture affecting Colorado was under discussion at the The Next Generation of Ag Symposium in Denver this week.

The symposium for agricultural professionals heard a keynote from Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg .

Wendy White at the Department of Ag explained that the state is” experiencing a swing in agriculture, from a general focus on food to a zoomed lens on the next generation of innovation and consumer engagement, that’s driving a cultural shift in Colorado. White went on to say that the symposium captured the complexity and curiosity about what’s next for agriculture. Told through stories, ideas and predictions of leading industry experts,”

“A panel of speakers to talk about various issues related to agriculture in Colorado. Everything from technology and innovation, multigenerational farms and ranches, new and beginning farmers and some of the challenges and opportunities that are ahead of them. As well as broad based issues and to educate the media, especially about Colorado agriculture so that they can share that message with the general public.”

In addition to a keynote by Commissioner Greenberg, panelists included Will Johnson, of Flying Diamond Ranch, Dr. Amanda Weaver of the University of Colorado, and Roberto Meza of Emerald Gardens Microgreens

Agricultural in Colorado encompasses 38,000 farms with nearly 32 million acres. Agriculture supports more than 170,000 jobs and contributed more than $40 billion to the state’s economy annually. Exports are valued at nearly $2 billion in products every year.
