The National Ag Statistics Service is asking Colorado farmers to help them in a study of ag resources.

Bill Meyer at the NASS Colorado field office in Lakewood says they’ll use the data for a lot of future decisions about programs and aid to assist producers.

Meyer says the Ag Resource Study is done in 3 parts. The screening phase was done over the spring. Now they ‘re undertaking the Farm Chemical Use and Production Practices Survey.

In Colorado, were covering barley, sorghum, and wheat production. We have a sample of about 400 growers throughout Colorado. What we’re looking at is how they’re taking care of the land. We all know that producers are good stewards of the land , great stewards of the land and this is a survey to show that. We’re looking at their chemical use, their fertilizer usage, tillage practices. Chemical use data is used to show that producers are good stewards of chemical and they use this data to re-register some of those products.

Meyer says starting early next year reports will be released using this data. He says if producers have questions about the survey they are welcome to call the NASS office in Lakewood.
