Every time I go to a sportsman's show, I am inspired by the number of display booths that have products which were developed by outdoorsmen who saw a need and did not find that need in the marketplace and so goes the story with David MacDonald, Founder and Managing Director of LUNKERHUNT Premium fishing products. "I started LUNKERHUNT in 2004 out of my house. I am an angler and tournament fisherman and couldn't find products that I wanted or were specific to what I was fishing so I started making my own and other anglers started buying them and independent stores started asking for them and it kind of took on a life of its own. In 2005, LUNKERHUNT went to retail and started growing organically like word of mouth, small shops and then in 2010, LUNKERHUNT was acquired by BG distribution and marketing which is a much bigger and multinational company with big infrastructure. When you were acquired, did they keep on making the lures that you had invented? Yes. I still do for LUNKERHUNT which is a bigger animal, it is just that the ownership has changed. I did a story some time ago on the little frog that looks like a terrific bass lure, I would presume. Yes but it is also good for crappie. What is unique about it is that it is great for small mouth as well. Typically a hollow bellied frog isn't usually targeted for catching smallmouth but what happens is that the toes catch the water so it's like a popper. They now just use the fraud all the time because the legs ripple the water so much.
