Median Farm Income

A few weeks ago, the USDA's median farm income estimate captured significant attention as it was prominently cited as an indicator of a difficult farm economy.

Carrie Litkowski is with the USDA and explains some of the information is still to come.

Median U.S. farm income over the last five years has trended lower.

The USDA's bottom-line number is representative of all 2 million U.S. farms. The USDA also reports data across three farm types: residence, intermediate, and commercial farms.

The farm economy slowdown has created financial stress for farmers across the U.S. --- the report does not indicate which types of farms are facing the worst difficulties.
