Standing or sitting while fishing

Damon Bungard, is the product manager for Jackson kayak and talks about facilitating both standing and sitting while fishing. "How comfortable somebody is standing and fishing is a function of the person and their physical ability and their comfort level and that is why we make kayaks that, even though they are for standing, there are some that are more stable than others. A big rig, for instance, seeing a 300 pound guys who have never stood in a kayak before can stand in that kayak. Then we have other ones that people will still stand and fish from but they are using for other applications. Some have narrower hulls and are not necessarily designed as much for standing but guys that are nimble still do it. When it comes to standing in a kayak, the other big side of it is the seating system. You can imagine if you plop your butt on the floor, and try to stand up, it is hard. if you are seated on a small stool and try to stand up, it is much easier. When you look at all of our fishing kayaks they have basically a lawn chair. It reclines and is very comfortable seating system that has multiple position seats. They can go from a low position to a high position so based on your comfort level, you can put that seat at a lower, more stable position, but if you want to get up and down a lot, you can put that in a high seat position and the act of standing or sitting back down is much more stable and much easier because you are already in that position where your thighs can engage and help you stand up. That kind of functionality is one of the standard features of modern kayaks.
