Trespassing Drones What are Your Options?

I saw an interesting article in Progressive Dairy about what to do about drones that are flying over your farm or ranch uninvited and taking images. As we know photos can be taken from public roads but no one should step on private property uninvited. However, the the air above your private property is considered national air space — controlled by the FAA and is NOT your personal property. Robert Blair — Vice President of Agriculture with Measure — a drone service company — says that commercial drones must have permission to take images of your property. Although if an uninvited drone is seen over your property, Blair gives this advice. The first step is
Blair: “To contact the FAA. There are a whole lot of rules and regulations if someone is taking pictures. The drone actually has to be registered with the FAA. It has to have an N number so if they can get that number and report that to the FAA and/or the State Aviation Department. There are a rules and regulations in a lot of states. Idaho has some on the books on drones and how they can be used that are in favor of the land owner.”
He continues with what not to do.
Blair: “Property owners should not shoot down a drone. We’ve seen videos on YouTubes and I’ve seen things on social media about raptors being trained to take drones out of the air. That is destruction of property. Please contact your local authorities and let them take the next step.”
