Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had 2750 tons of hay trade this week.Compared to last Friday, all grades of export alfalfa steady to $20 lower in a light test. Stack damage remains a problem for buyers. Demand was good at the lower price levels. Premium export hay sold for $120 in the mid-square bales. Good to premium export hay also sold at $120. Fair export hay sold at $140. Alfalfa small square for export on the premium sold for $140 also.
In Idaho compared to the previous week all grades of alfalfa were steady in a light test. Trade slow with light to moderate demand. Mid square bales of alfalfa rated good/premium tarped sold for $150 per ton. Fair mid-square bales of alfalfa tarped sold for $75 per ton. Rain damaged alfalfa mid-squares rated utility to fair sold between $60 and $70 per ton.
In Oregon, trade generally steady compared to the previous week’s prices in very limited test. Many hay producers are sold out for the year. In Central Oregon orchard grass small square bales rated premium for the retail/stable market sold for $250 per ton. In Lake County large squares of alfalfa rated premium/supreme sold for $180 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large squares of good to premium alfalfa sold for $135 per ton.There were no new sales confirmed in either Klamath Basin or in Harney County.
