Seed Potato Protection

Don Drader, Agronomist with Syngenta, shares that potato producers need to be thinking about this time of year of how best to begin their plants off healthy.
Drader: We have two different seed treatments that growers need to be aware of — CruiserMaxx Potato and CruiserMaxx Potato Extreme. The difference between the two is that Extreme adds Fusarium activity so if you live in an area with Fusarium resistance or you don’t think you are getting the activity that you should be seeing, the addition of that Extreme will improve the overall efficiency of that product. With CruiserMaxx Potato we are getting insecticide control with the Cruiser and with the maximum we’re getting Fusarium and Rhizoc activity and then with the addition of the Difenoconazole in the Extreme, we are getting better Fusarium activity. So it allows the plant to start off healthy.”
Drader continues
Drader: “In addition to the seed treatment, I think many growers are looking at an addition of an in-furrow fungicide. We’ve been marketing Quadris for many years and finding it extremely good efficiency for Rhizoc, and silver scur, black dot with the addition of that product.”
Drader adds that Quadris also enables crops to utilize resources like air, water and nutrients more efficiently.
