Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had a little over 2,500 tons ton trade this week. Compared to two weeks ago Friday, supreme dairy to fourth and fifth cutting alfalfa and export alfalfa steady in a light test. Supreme alfalfa sold for $220 that was tarped. Good and premium export hay $140 delivered in. Alfalfa small squares for the retail/stable market $250 to $265. Orchard grass for the retail/stable market was $260 to $275. And note on the small square bales $150 for the retail/stable market.
In Idaho compared to previous week, not enough of any one class of hay for accurate market trends. Trade was slow last week with continued light demand. Wheat Straw mid-size squares rated good sold for $55 a ton.
In Oregon, the upcoming holidays have slowed hay sales.In Central Oregon, small square bales of alfalfa rated premium sold for $250 per ton for the retail/stable market. In Eastern Oregon large squares of good/premium alfalfa squares for export sold for $130 per ton. In Klamath Basin good to premium small square alfalfa bales sold for $180 per ton for the retail/stable market. In Harney County, large premium squares of alfalfa sold between $210 to $220 a ton.
