Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: “We had about 2900 tons of hay trade this week compared to last Friday. Premium/supreme, dairy hay and fourth and fifth cutting alfalfa and export alfalfa steady in a light test. Premium/supreme alfalfa mid-square bales tarped $190. Export hay at $150. Alfalfa retail/stable hay small square bales $260 to $265. Orchard grass premium retail/stable $260 to $275.”

In Idaho compared to previous week, supreme, premium and good alfalfa was steady in a light test. Trade slow to moderate last week with continued light demand. Organic Premium/supreme mid-square bales of alfalfa sold for $260 per ton. Oat mid-square bales rated good sold for $80 per ton.

In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in comparison to the previous week. The upcoming holidays have slowed hay sales.In Central Oregon, small square bales of alfalfa rated good sold from $230 to $235 per ton for the retail/stable market. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa small squares rated good sold for $190 per ton. In Klamath Basin premium large square alfalfa bales sold for $210 per ton. In Lake County, organic small square bales of alfalfa sold for $250 per ton. In Harney County, there were no new sales confirmed.
