Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had 3338 tons trade this week compared to last Friday. Supreme dairy fourth cutting alfalfa was weak as exporters and dairy interests alike have enough inventory on hand. Supreme mid-square alfalfa sold at $175 to $195. Small square alfalfa for retail market sold for $260 to $265. Timothy grass mid-square fair and good export market at $155 and wheat straw mid-squares good quality at $60.”
In Idaho compared to previous week, supreme, premium and good alfalfa was steady to firm. Trade was slow last week as buyers took a wait and see attitude. Mid-square bales of supreme alfalfa sold for $200 per ton while mid-square bales of good alfalfa sold for $150 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in comparison to the previous week. Export sales continue to be slow. In Central Oregon, small square bales of orchard grass rated premium were sold for $240 per ton for the retail and stable market. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa small squares rated good sold for $150 per ton. In Klamath Basin premium small square alfalfa bales sold for $220 per ton. In Harney County, mid-square bales of alfalfa rated premium sold for $200.
