Jack crevalle
We took a 10 day vacation on the Pacific side of Mexico in a wonderful small town of about 4000 people. It is well known for inshore fishing for species like Jack crevalle, roosters, tuna, and some Dorado. I knew that some people had been able to catch big fish off the beach with a fly rod. A lot of times with these ocean fishing situations, you are looking for birds, breakwater where the bait fish are being pushed around by the bigger fish, obvious signs for you to cast into. I look out into the ocean and there is nothing and I strip out some line off the fly reel. Well about the second cast I was stripping this deceiver which is a saltwater baitfish imitation and I felt like I was hit by a truck. The line just screamed off the reel and I had this thing set as far as you could go and I was screaming like an idiot because I am so excited that something actually happened. The next-door neighbors all thought I was in trouble so they come running out. The fish is running all over the place and I'm just getting dragged around the beach. I still don't know what I have on. Finally, a wave breaks on the beach and there's a brief period of time where it looks like you have a window and the fish swam through this window of visibility and here is about a 25 pound Jack crevalle which are the thugs of the ocean. They are predatory big fish. Finally it came in and beached itself and my brother-in-law jumped on it and landed it and we got great pictures.
