Why Social Media is Important

Too often, bottom-lined-focused ag producers view social media as a waste of time or having no value because they don’t perceive a way to make money directly from it.
That is not the right perspective to have says Kelly McDonald, a nationally recognized marketing expert with specialization in multi-cultural marketing and business trends. She says
McDonald: “It is totally more than just making money on it. Because you are going to be making money on it because people are going to be more aware of your brand and stuff. But it is also understanding that this is how people are choosing to communicate these days. They are not necessarily going over to a friend’s house and hanging out. They are communicating online. They are communicating through Tweets. They are sharing information and that is what it is. So from a branding-standpoint why wouldn’t you want to be part of the conversation. That’s how you have to look at it, ‘Am I part of the conversation?’ It’s not about advertising — what of the best things I ever heard was take the words social media and take the word media out of your vocabulary because we as Marketing people think media=advertising. Just forget that the word media is there. Focus on social part of it and you are well on your way to figuring out how it works.”
When it comes to reaching the Millennial generation and their children known as generation Z — social media is a very important element.
