Caught up with Up Front Outfitters owner and big game guide, Mike Jenkins, couple of days after Christmas. "Happy holidays, did you have a nice Christmas? Yes I certainly did. I got some very nice weapons from my wife who incidentally, told me that she wasn't getting anything for me and didn't expect anything back because we wanted to save money. I saw a right through that. The minute she told me that I headed for the jewelry store. She ended up giving me a great shotgun but I saw through that. Yes, only a fool would not get their wife in Christmas present. Exactly. Saw through that BS in a heartbeat. Hey, changing the subject, tell me about Colorado elk. I know I have lived in Arizona where there are monster bulls, you talk about Washington's elk population complete with the Roosevelt and the Rocky Mountain species. Colorado, I believe, has still got the highest elk population out of all the Rocky Mountain states. At last report it was at least 280,000 elk. So there is an abundance of elk in Colorado. Now, Colorado is not known for the genetics and the quality of elk that some of the other Rocky Mountain states have such as Arizona and New Mexico, but there are some really good trophy units in the state.
