Quiet Start to the Week's Grain Market

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for December 30, 2014.
It was a relatively quiet day in the grain markets — wheat was up and corn was lower. From the floor of the CME Group, Todd Horwitz shares his observations of Monday’s markets.
Horwitz: “A little softer opening here this morning but I don’t put much stock in that is going on here. It look like it is going to be a quiet week.Volume last Wednesday and Friday were about 7 to 8 percent of normal which is down 93 percent. I look for more action here, very similar light volume not a lot — I don’t expect any news. If anything major would happen I think it would happen to the downside because I believe it would only be something of bad news that would force sellers to come in.”
Chicago March Wheat ended Monday up 4 and 3/4 cents at 6-15 and 1/2. March corn ended the day down 2 cents at 4-12 and 3/4.
Portland January prices for soft white wheat of ordinary protein were steady to up 4 cents ranging between 6-85 and 6-93 and 1/2. White club white had no price comparisons. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein January prices were up 3 and 1/2 cents ranging between 7-32 and 1/2 and 7-42 and 1/2. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein January prices were up 4 and 3/4 cents ranging between 8-77 and 1/4 to 8-87 and 1/4.
February live cattle were up $2.52 and half on Friday at 165-even. March Feeder cattle were up $3.77 and half at 215-67 and half. January class III milk was steady at at 15-75.
