Mixed Day in Grain Markets

Mixed Day in Grain Markets

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for November 7, 2014.
Thursday was a mixed day for the grain markets — wheat was lower and both corn and beans higher. From the floor of the CME Group, Alexandra Lively shares her observations of Thursday’s markets.
Lively: “Corn and wheat were pulled off of earlier session lows from spillover support from the move higher in soybean and meals. Now net sales of corn and wheat both below trade expectations. Traders and analysts here in Chicago are watching a few key things: that U.S. dollar index which hit a 4 and half year high this morning after the ECB left their key interest rates unchanged. Grain traders also noted some storage issues for producers. Yield reports coming in weaker in some areas of the U.S.”
Chicago December Wheat ended Thursday down 4 and 1/2 cents at 5-20 and 1/4. December corn ended the day up a penny at 3-71 and 1/4.
Portland prices for soft white wheat were down 3 and 3/4 to 4 and 1/2 cents at mostly 6-78. White club wheat prices were down 4 and 1/2 cents at mostly 9-24 and 1/4. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were down 5 and 1/2 cents at mostly 7-32. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were down 5 and 1/4 cents at mostly 8-99.
December live cattle were up 15 cents on Thursday at 165-35. January Feeder cattle were up 37 and half cents at 230-57 and half. December class III milk was down 28 cents at 19-22.
