Mom Brings Science to Her Blog, It's Momsense

A Mom Blogger out of the Portland area does an excellent job of researching her issues that concern parents. It’s Momsense blogger Sarah who recently wrote about the scary trend of parents NOT vaccinating their children against illnesses like measles, polio or chicken pox because it seems they don’t believe the proven science of immunization.
Sarah: “Especially now that I live in Oregon, where there is the highest rate of non-immunized children in the country — and none of it based in science. In the same way that that fear about GMOs is not based in science. A lot of time people will say there aren’t enough studies done about the safety — whether it is GMOs or vaccinations. My question for them is what does enough look like? In the case of GMOS, for example if in 20 years of safe use and hundreds — maybe thousands — of studies confirm the safety and every major scientific body agrees on the safety. If none of that is enough — I just not sure that those folks will be satisfied that there is enough. That is really concerning to me that they can turn a blind eye and walk away from the science.”
This fall Oregon will vote on an initiative to decide whether GMO products will be labeled. She says that is a bad idea to label GMOs
Sarah: “I think it presents an unnecessary barrier to the progress of a really beneficial technology. I think it is misleading because it implies that food produced through genetically modification is harmful. And I think it will also force us all to pay more for one group’s idealogical preference.”
