Here with the weekly hay update is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders who shares last week’s hay report.
Sanders: “Columbia Basin hay report, we had 9300 tons trade this week.Good to premium export hay sold for $200 to $233. Fair and good rain damaged hay sold at $165. to $180. Small square alfalfa for retail hay sold for $250 to $260. Orchard grass for retail small squares $260 to $275. Timothy grass for export sold for $220 in large square bales.”
In Idaho compared to previous week,trade very slow this week as both buyers and sellers try to decide on what to do with heavy rain damaged supplies. Demand good for non-rained on, light for heavy rained on supplies. Large square bales of alfalfa good/premium sold for $175 per ton and rain-damaged fair large square bales of alfalfa sold for $155 per ton.
In Oregon, hay prices were generally steady compared to previous week. In Central Oregon, small square premium alfalfa bales for retail sold for $260 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large square alfalfa bales rated supreme sold for $240 per ton. In the Klamath Basin, premium small square alfalfa for the retail market sold for $240 per ton.
