Pacific Northwest Hay Update

Pacific Northwest Hay Update

Here with the weekly hay update is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders who shares last week’s hay report.
Sanders: “The Columbia Basin hay report this week had 16,300 tons trade. Compared to last week, alfalfa for domestic and export markets were steady to higher. Premium export hay sold from $235 to $245 on the alfalfa. Orchard grass retail small squares for sold for $275. Timothy for export on the premium sold at $250 for large square bales.”
In Idaho compared to the previous week, the alfalfa market trended generally higher. Demand was light for non-rained on supplies. Trade was moderate with limited buyers. Many producers are busy in the field. Large square alfalfa premium was sold for $205 to $240 per ton.
In Oregon, hay prices were generally steady compared to the previous week.  There was buyer interest but the volume of trading was slower than the week previous.  Rain and thunderstorms in most locations in the past few weeks has caused much rain damage to hay that wasn’t already stored. Central Oregon’s alfalfa large square hay rated good was being sold for $200 per ton. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa large square premium/supreme sold for $240 a ton. In the Klamath Basin Mid size square alfalfa rated premium for export was sold for $255 per ton.
