Julie Zicha and her husband own Fall River Flyrods and make lots of great bamboo fly rods. She emailed me the other day and told me they had moved to the Heber Valley in Utah and I asked her to tell me about the fishing there. “ It is amazing. We are lucky enough to have the middle and lower Provo River running through the Heber Valley and especially the middle Provo River has gotten to the point in the last decade where it has established itself pretty well as one of the top trout fisheries in the US. Between the Provo River and up around the Strawberry River and Strawberry Reservoir there are a lot of different things to pick from. Middle Provo River is probably what it is known most for. What kind of trout? We have rainbows, brown’s, especially, what people come here most for, you can see some cut throats here, a little bit of everything. It is a beautiful area and fish sizes run anywhere from 14 inches to 16 inches on up to 26 inch fish. That is easily in the Provo River. Which translates to? Oh gosh, I would say 3 to 4 pounds for a 26 inch fish.
