The United States Geological Survey Is very much involved with bodies of water and with conservation efforts which, as sportsmen, we will be glad to know involves salmon. I had a conversation with spokesperson Frank Shipley: "Is there some threat to salmon and that garners such importance in terms of conservation efforts? Yes, salmon have declined throughout most of their range. There have been a lot of stressors on salmon populations. These range from different effects of damming rivers, alteration of land use due to agriculture and cities, pollution is an issue, reproduction of salmon in critical habitats, there is a whole suite of stressors that affect these fish and it is not something that can be solved through anyone approach so we are looking at, what are the data sets that are needed to form the right decisions. And how do we work together to get that data? All the salmon have issues but the whole suite of Pacific salmon has conservation concerns. Some of them are listed and some of them are not.
