A road report from my bird hunting buddy.

Dennis Anderson has been hunting birds passionately for his entire life. Every year about this time he takes an extended hunting vacation so I checked in on his progress. "From North Dakota, I dropped down into South Dakota. I have a camp north of Pierre, South Dakota, and it fronts the Missouri River. I have some partners there and we are fortunate enough to have a big chunk of property that we farm with hunting in mind. We hunted pheasant there and geese and ducks as well. The pheasant hunting in South Dakota this year is not as strong as it has been in past years. That is for us in our area. There are pockets where there are some really good bird numbers but overall they are down generally in South Dakota. We were able to find a few birds and give the dogs quite a bit of work. We really turned to waterfowl hunting because the birds from Southern Canada and North Dakota down on to Lake Owyhee which is the dam right there at Pierre and it blocks up the Missouri River and forms a lake which is about the better share of 100 miles long so there is a lot of water backed up there and a lot of crop land around it so it is a great place for the migration to hold up as long as they have good food and good weather. When you say migration, are we talking geese? Yes. Geese and ducks but we were specifically after geese.
