Winter Wheat Crop Progress

Winter Wheat Crop Progress

USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says all of the winter wheat crop is planted in the ground and emerged as of the week ending November 10th.

Rippey: "Ninety-five nationally. Mainly the remaining acreage still being planted across the South and Southeast. Winter wheat emergence also almost mostly complete 84 percent by November 10th. Five-year average 80 percent and last year at this time 78 percent. And the winter wheat condition remains overall good as we move deeper into the fall and head towards dormancy with cold weather starting to descend on the nation. By November 10th, almost two-thirds of the crop -- 65 percent -- rated good to excellent that's up two points from a week ago. Only 5 percent rated poor to very poor and that's down a point. Last year at this time as we still had quite a bit of drought in the country 36 percent good to excellent, 22 percent very poor to poor."

Crop condition across the Pacific Northwest is as follows: in Oregon 67 percent of winter wheat is good condition and the remaining 33 percent in fair condition. About 76 percent of the crop has emerged which is a little ahead of the five year average.

Idaho has 90 percent of winter wheat crop condition reported good to excellent and 86 percent of the crop emerged.

Washington reported dryland winter wheat's condition as 75 percent good to excellent and the remaining 25 percent as fair. As far as crop progress, 88 percent of the winter wheat has emerged as of the week ending on November 10th.
