What is it like to fish for blue Marlin in the Gulf of Mexico? Here is expert deep-sea fishermen Chris Miller: "It's got a lot to do with getting linked up with the right boat because you are running to where that blue water is. Captains know that we have to run hundred and 20 miles Southwest to get where that bait and the blue water are with a better chance of catching these huge fish. You are doing the giant Shimano reels where what you are using is just to get you something equivalent to be able to catch a 700 pound fish. All that preparation, the baits, getting the boat prepared, testing the drags and all those things so that it is a fine tuned machine that gets out there, and I'm not just talking about the boat, I am talking about the crew and everyone working together, and when you get out there you are trolling for these fish, you're not just dropping a line to the bottom, you're not casting, this is putting the lines out into a pattern to mimic a bait ball, you are cruising at 10 to 11 knots and pulling these 6-7 baits behind you and trying to get in the right position to catch blue marlin, white marlin, tuna, dolphin."
