US Dehydrated Potatoes Used in Thailand Restaurant Recipes

U.S. dehydrated potatoes are being used around the globe to make creative and tasty dishes. For example, in Thailand, a New York chain restaurant Dean and Deluca with locations in Thailand is using U.S. dehy potatoes for its mashed potatoes.

The United States Potato Board International Marketing Manager TK Kuwahara shares another example of U.S. dehy use in Thailand.

Kuwahara: “We’re seeing other companies launch things as well. For example, there is a company called Jeffer and they’ve had U.S. mash potatoes on their menu for quite sometime. But they are taking those mashed potatoes and making new menu items, so they launched crispy mashed potatoes in May.”

Kuwahara praises the efforts and support of the USPB trade offices in marketing U.S. potatoes in foreign countries.

Kuwahara: “We are seeing the exports to Thailand increase. In comparison from last year during the same time, we’ve seen exports increase approximately 100 percent. I have to say it is from a smaller base, like 629 metric tons. It is one of our smaller and young markets but it is still significant.”
