FSA Seeks Nominees for Ag Committees

USDA’s Farm Service agency is looking for candidates for upcoming grower-elected county committee election. FSA offices in every county of every state will accept nominations through August 1st.

Washington State’s FSA Executive Director Judy Olson shares more details about the responsibilities of the role.

Olson: “It’s a real opportunity for producers to have some say in the programs that affect their livelihood. They participate in making decisions about USDA programs on behalf of producers in their county. They hear appeals. They set some of the rules and guidance that affects local agriculture.”

Olson explains these positions provide a distinct opportunity for local producers.

Olson: “I think that it is important that producers recognize that this is a unique opportunity. The County Committee structure is unique to USDA ‘s Farm Service Agency. It is the only agency I know of that in the federal government that hears appeals of their peers when a producer has a disagreement with a program of the federal government.”

FSA encourages all interested agricultural producers, including women and minority growers, to seek nomination. Eligible candidates must participate or cooperate in any Farm Service Agency program and be of legal voting age.

Additional information and nomination forms may be requested from any Farm Service Agency office or online.
