Final Ag Census Deadline Fast Approaching

USDA National Ag Statistic Service is issuing a last call to farmers who still need to submit their 2012 Census of Agriculture forms. They have until the end of May to do so.

Chris Messer of USDA's National Ag Statistics Service says

Messer: “May 31st is going to be kinda of be our final, final cutoff date when we really have to end that portion of data collection and really get into the totals and how that is looking for any analysis work.”

Says there is usually some leeway in survey collection dates as some farmers are still waiting for their final tax returns during the main collection period that ends in February.

Messer: “We have a February due date so that we can get as many records into the system to be edited and processed. That helps us to move everything along quicker.”

Messer says that a postcard reminder will be sent out this month along with phone calls and visits to farmers.

Messer: “Just take the time to respond that will be the best thing to do. If you also have access to internet, the form will be available online. You can reach that through at www.agcensus.usda.gov. We always have customer service people available to help if you have questions, so that number is 1-888-428-7828. So people are willing to help if there is anything we can do to help. Just knowing if you are involved in ag or if you are not involved in ag -- both of those things would help us very much.”
