USPB Retail Promoting Potato's Nutritional Value

More and more consumers are looking for nutritional value and at the ingredient lists while they do their shopping. Retail stores are working to promote the positive nutritional value of potatoes in a variety of ways. USPB Retail Program Consultant Don Ladhoff says one of the core values in the work he does with retail grocery store chains is to continue to stress the nutritional benefits of potatoes -- a natural and fresh food.

Ladhoff says the majority of potato product packaging does promote potato’s nutritional benefits like being an excellent source of vitamin C and a good source of potassium. He says retailers giving out recipes is also another way to provide positive nutritional information.

Ladhoff: “Recipes in a retail setting are a very important tool for us -- not only giving people new ideas for healthy dishes and showing those nutritionals but giving them suggestions or alternative recipes for the dishes they already love and how to make those even healthier. A great example of that is using Greek yoghurt instead of the mayo or sour cream they already use.”
