USPB Provides a Map to Better Potato Sales

I'm KayDee Gilkey with the U.S. Potato Update brought to you by Syngenta and the United States Potato Board. Listen carefully so you can answer the Spuds, Scales and Sleds Sweepstakes question.

The United States Potato Board is continually striving to deepen their understanding of their target demographic, known as Linda. Her shopping behaviors, based on USPB proprietary research has helped to reveal to the nation’s grocery retailers which of their stores have the highest indexing Linda locations.

With very small profit margins, retailers are always looking to see where they can increase their sales and USPB’s data helps retailers sharpen their focus.

USPB Retail Program Consultant Don Ladhoff explains those stores with higher number of Linda households should mean higher potato sales.

Ladhoff: “We found that it does correlate, High Indexing Linda Locations sell on average, 10 percent more in fresh potato categories dollars. More than 15 percent greater potato category volume and a full one percent greater dollar share of the produce department coming from fresh potatoes. And that third point is the most important, because the fact that they sell more potato dollars in volume, may just mean they’re better produce stores.”

That’s the U.S. Potato Update brought to you by the United States Potato Board, maximizing return on grower investment. ?
