It’s Time for Ice Cream

Now that summer is finally hitting its stride in the Pacific Northwest, and temperatures have been on the rise what better way to cool off than with ice cream. July is National Ice Cream Month and as a salute to our Pacific Northwest dairy producers, dip a scoop of your favorite flavor and celebrate.

One of the Cougar-nation’s favorite ice cream haunts, Washington State’s own Ferdinand Ice Cream Shoppe, is in the finals of the Progressive Dairyman’s 2012 Flavor Faceoff.

Dr. Dale Moore, Director of Veterinary Medicine Extension at Washington State University, entered the huckleberry ice cream from WSU’s Ferdinand’s Ice Cream Shoppe in the competition.

Moore: “In the nomination, they asked me why I selected the flavor that I did.
So I selected Ferdinand’s Huckleberry ice cream particularly in grabber size because it depicts the Northwest region. We were entering for the Northwest region we were in competition with three Idaho ice creams. So I thought huckleberry would be best selection for the Northwest.”

Dr. Moore adds she feels that both WSU Cougar Pride and the friendly WSU cows that provide the milk to make this special ice cream will help it rise to the top of the competition as well. With 30 years of experience as a dairy veterinarian, Dr. Moore knows her cows and has a great fondness for dairy cows and the industry.
