Remember to Celebrate

With today being Valentine’s Day, many of us will be giving special gifts to love ones. Today is as good as any day to also remember to celebrate with your loved ones the many things that have been accomplished on your farm or ranch.

Jolene Brown, farmer, professional speaker, author, and family business consultant reminds us that in the day-to-day hustle bustle of our lives, we often forget to celebrate the milestones.

Brown: “It is interesting, as we work with weeds, seeds, breeds, and feeds and cash flow and marketing we are so caught up in the things that must be done. We forget that we need to pause and to applaud what we do.”

Brown says in haste to get all the items on the never ending to-do list completed, farmers and ranchers often don’t take the precious time to stop and appreciate their own or their family’s efforts and hard work.

Brown: “Here’s the deal, how are you any different than a hamster on a wheel running round and round and round getting burnt out, worn out and stressed out and then wondering why no one wants to jump on the wheel with you. Instead, I think we need to pause to applaud our accomplishments. Then we have the internal energy to continue task after task and situation after challenge to come out on top. Being grateful for what we’ve done and worthy of what we want to do.”

So figure out how best to celebrate with your love ones the accomplishments of your operation. It is a great way to demonstrate how much you appreciate those who make a difference in your life and your business.
